Breast Pathology
The Breast Pathology Service at Brown University Health Laboratories provides comprehensive expertise in diagnosing and evaluating breast diseases.
By coming to the Breast Pathology Service at Brown University Health Laboratories, patients will meet with breast pathology experts with 10 to 25 years of experience and gain access to a range of immunohistochemical studies, in situ hybridization for HER2, and molecular analysis for diagnostic and targeted therapy applications. The service manages over 1,500 breast biopsy cases annually for primary diagnosis. Each year, we also handle approximately 900 breast surgical specimens and more than 100 axillary lymph node cytology specimens.
The Breast Pathology Service plays an integral role in the care of breast cancer patients. Every breast cancer case is discussed at two weekly tumor boards to achieve consensus on treatment by breast surgeons and oncologists. Additionally, we collaborate closely with our radiology team to ensure concordance between imaging and pathology findings.
